Settings - Watch Folder Tab

You can configure certain properties of Watch Folders using the Edit Watch Folder window.  However, some settings affect all Watch Folders, and there are configured by clicking the 'Settings' button.  This will open the iHomeServerâ„¢ Settings window.  Now click the 'Watch Folders' tab:

Watched File Types

1. Watched File Types
iHomeServer will display the list of file types that all Watch Folders will attempt to process.  If you want to prevent a file type from being indexed, you can remove it by clicking 'Change...'.  You can also add other file types, however, iHomeServer simply passes the file to iTunes to import, therefore, if iTunes does not natively support the added file type, then iTunes will not be able to process the files and they will always show up as Failed during an iHomeServer scan.

Delete original files if moved by iTunes

2. Delete original files if moved by iTunes
If you have set the iTunes preference "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", then iTunes will make a copy of any file that iHomeServer detects in a Watch Folder into your iTunes Media folder.  If you wish to automatically delete the original files (i.e. those in the Watch Folder) after iTunes has moved the file to the iTunes Media folder, then check this option.  The default is unchecked.

Please refer to the topic 3. Should all your media live under the iTunes Media Folder? that forms one of the four Key Decisions you should make when installing iHomeServer.

Converted Watched File Types

3. Converted Watched File Types
iHomeServer will display the list of file types that all Watch Folders will attempt to process using an iTunes conversion engine.  Currently, the only file type that iTunes supports is .wma (Windows Media Audio).  iTunes can convert these to a format specified by the 'Conversion encoder' field.  By default, this field is set to 'Do not encode', so no encoding will take place.

Conversion encoder

4. Conversion encoder
Use this drop-down to select the iTunes encoder that should be used to encoder the file types defined by the 'Converted Watched File Types' described above.  By default, this setting is 'Do not encode' therefore (WMA) files will not be encoded.

If you select an encoder, iHomeServer will direct iTunes to use the encoder to convert the file instead of adding it during a Watch Folder index operation.  When iTunes encodes files, the original files are left where they are and the encoded version of the file is placed in the iTunes Media Folder.  If you wish the original file to be deleted once encoding is complete, tick the option "Delete source files after successful conversion" discussed next.
