Pull model: Playing your media on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch or Apple TV
The Push model
described above uses a running iTunes instance to
push media out to its local sound card or to other AirPlay devices such as an Apple TV. Alternatively, you can use an iOS device such as an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Apple TV to
pull media from the iTunes server via Home Sharing:
In this model, you need to configure Home Sharing on your iOS device. On iPhones / iPads / iPod Touch's, this is done within the Settings applet from your device's Home Screen. Please see
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 for detailed instructions on how to enable Home Sharing on your device. Once configured, you can access your server's media from the iPod App on your iPhone by tapping 'More...' then 'Shared' from where you can select your server's iTunes library. On an iPad, within the Video app, you will see a new tab called 'Shared' at the top of the screen from where you can access your iTunes movies and TV episodes; similarly within the iPod App, tap on Library to select a shared library to play. On an Apple TV your Shared Library appears under the 'Computers' menu on the main screen.
Don't f'orget that with iHomeServer v3 you can now 'pull' your media from many of your non-Apple devices too such as Smart TVs and Games Consoles (XBOX 360 or Playstation) using iHomeServer's
built-in iTunes DLNA server. You can also stream your media to any of your tablets, phones or computers running compatible browsers using
iHomeServer Web Access
