Log Files

iHomeServer™ generates verbose log files that can be useful to help diagnose issues or explain how iHomeServer is working.

The location of the log files depends on which Operating System you are running.  The tables below are specific to each Operating System.

Important Note
Note that if ‘known extensions’ are hidden (a Windows default) the log file ending in .log will appear without an extension, but will have a ‘text’ file type.

Windows hides some folders by default.  If you cannot find the folders, then you can show hidden folders by selecting the 'Folder Options' applet from Control Panel.  Under the 'View' tab, find 'Hidden files and folders' within the Advanced Settings section:

Click 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' and then OK.

Log Rolling

When an iHomeServer log file reaches 4Mb, the log will be archived by appending a .1 to the end of the log.  When the next log fills up, the log archived as *.1 will be rename *.2, and the active log will be renamed to .1.  This rolling of logs allows the logs to stay manageable.  A maximum of 5 archived logs will be kept on your system before they are overwritten.

Sending logs to bizmodeller Support

If you would like to send logs to bizmodeller Support as part of a support case, then please zip the logs up first before sending - if the logs are too big, we can provide a dropbox link for upload instead.
